AIHA Announces James Frederick, Deputy Head of OSHA, as AIHce EXP 2022 Closing Keynote Speaker
FALLS CHURCH, Va. (April 27, 2022)—AIHA is announcing that James Frederick, the deputy assistant secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health, will be the closing keynote speaker at this year’s American Industrial Hygiene Conference and Expo (AIHce EXP), the leading conference for industrial hygiene and occupational and environmental health and safety. In his address to conference attendees, Frederick will discuss the OSHA’s ongoing activities, rulemakings, and initiatives to keep workers healthy and safe. Frederick will also cover future developments in the nature of work and how the occupational safety and health community can best prepare for the challenges and opportunities presented by the changing workforce.

Frederick has three decades of experience in providing occupational health and safety leadership to North American labor unions as an advocate for workers, their employers and regulatory agencies. Frederick also spent 25 years in the Health, Safety, and Environment Department of the United Steelworkers Union, including his service as assistant director and principal investigator, until 2019. Throughout his career, he has served as a member of many important safety and health groups, such as NIOSH’s Board of Scientific Counselors, the ANSI Z10 standard committee, the U.S delegation that helped create the ISO 45001 standard, the NIOSH National Occupational Research Agenda’s Traumatic Injury Prevention Council, the National Institute of Environmental Health Science Worker Training Program’s National Clearinghouse Advisory Committee, and the OSHA Metal Working Fluids Standard Advisory Committee. Frederick obtained his Bachelor of Science in environmental health from Purdue University and his Master of Science in environmental health and safety management from Rochester Institute of Technology.
On May 23–25, AIHce EXP will welcome in-person attendees in Nashville, Tennessee, after two years of the event having been held virtually due to the pandemic. AIHA’s goal is to ensure that all those attending in person will feel comfortable and safe.
