FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Release No. SPR-20-05-06
FALLS CHURCH, VA.—(May, 06 2020) The American Industrial Hygiene Foundation (AIHF) has announced they will convert their annual fun run, scheduled to take place June 1-15, to a virtual format, with the proceeds raised from the event going toward scholarship funds for future industrial hygiene and occupational health professionals.
Participants will choose to complete either a 2.5-kilometer walk, a 5-kilometer run, or a 10-kilometer bike ride via a route of their choice, tracking their distance via GPS apps and submitting their results to AIHF for a chance to win raffle prizes. Those who register before May 10th will receive a commemorative T-shirt before the event.
“Many AIHce EXP attendees have looked forward to the Fun Fun. It’s a great way to show your competitive side, form new friendships, and support the foundation,” said Thursa La, AIHF manager. “We are excited to continue the tradition this year, albeit in different settings, and give everyone the chance to support the foundation while staying active.”
Registration for individual participants costs $40, and $100 for a family of four. AIHF’s goal is to raise $20,000 in scholarship funds in support of IH/OH students. Individuals or families can register online at aihceexp.org/funrun.
“This amazing event wouldn’t be possible without the support of our sponsors,” said La. “Year after year they choose to get involved because they know that this event is more than just a walk or a run. It’s about helping today those who will lead us toward healthier and safer workplaces tomorrow.”
AIHF Fun Run sponsors span a wide array of industries, including:
- Premier sponsor: Amazon.
- Silver sponsors: Alliant, REPSS, Inc., SevenGen.

The mission of the American Industrial Hygiene Foundation is to advance the profession of industrial hygiene and related disciplines by awarding scholarships to students in the field, and funding training and professional development opportunities for IH/OH professionals during the first 15 years of their careers.
Since 1982, AIHF has distributed more than $2 million in scholarship funds to students pursuing a degree in industrial hygiene and occupational and environmental health and safety. These scholarships have enabled talented students to complete their education, and have encouraged the most promising scholars to enter and remain in the profession.
Founded in 1939, the American Industrial Hygiene Association is a nonprofit organization serving professionals dedicated to the anticipation, recognition, evaluation, control, and confirmation of environmental stressors in or arising from the workplace that may result in injury, illness, or impairment, or affect the well-being of workers and members of the community. AIHA provides comprehensive education programs and other products and services that help its members maintain the highest professional standards.
More than half of AIHA’s nearly 8,500 members are Certified Industrial Hygienists, and many hold other professional designations. AIHA serves as a resource for those employed in the industrial, consulting, academic, and government sectors. Learn more at www.aiha.org.
