JOEH Editor-in-Chief Application Instructions

The Journal of Occupational and Environmental Hygiene (JOEH) is a joint publication of the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA®) and the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH®). JOEH is a peer-reviewed journal devoted to enhancing the knowledge and practice of occupational and environmental hygiene and safety by widely disseminating research articles and applied studies of highest quality. JOEH provides a written medium for the communication of ideas, methods, processes and research in core and emerging areas of occupational and environmental hygiene.

Description

The EIC has responsibility for ensuring timely publication of high-quality manuscripts of interest to the occupational and environmental hygiene community in JOEH. Towards this goal, the EIC must: remain abreast of trends in occupational and environmental hygiene and update the JOEH scope and content accordingly; and communicate respectively with authors, reviewers, and readers. JOEH receives over 300 manuscript submissions per year via an electronic system (ScholarOne), and on a day-to-day basis the EIC reviews submitted manuscripts, assigns peer-reviewers and makes determinations of acceptance, revision and rejection. The EIC is a non-voting member on the JOEH Board of Directors and submits biannual summary reports regarding the status of submitted manuscripts. Annually, at AIHce, the EIC meets with the JOEH Board of Directors and the JOEH Editorial Review Board members.

The EIC must have:
  • national recognition for his or her professional accomplishments in the field of occupational and environmental hygiene,
  • a record of publication in peer-reviewed journals that demonstrates in-depth knowledge of a field of scientific inquiry and research methods relevant to the scope of the JOEH,
  • experience writing, reviewing and editing technical documents, such as peer-reviewed manuscripts or scientific reports, and
  • familiarity with the objectives and operations of AIHA® and ACGIH® gained through membership and active participation in one or both organizations.
This is a one-year renewable contract position starting on or around November 1, 2017. This position will remain open until filled.
