AIHA's Lab Accreditation Program Celebrates 40 Years of Excellence

Posted January 29, 2014

This year, AIHA Laboratory Accreditation Programs, LLC (AIHA-LAP, LLC) celebrates its 40th anniversary. AIHA® initially began its laboratory accreditation program working with NIOSH in 1972. In July 1974, the AIHA Board of Directors announced the accreditation of 26 labs, fully launching the Industrial Hygiene Laboratory Accreditation Program (IHLAP). By 1977, 105 labs had received accreditation. Now operating under a Limited Liability Company (LLC), AIHA-LAP accredits nearly 300 labs across IHLAP and four other programs: environmental microbiology, environmental lead, food, and unique scopes.

To celebrate this important milestone, AIHA-LAP will have a special display booth and a history wall at AIHce 2014 in San Antonio, along with a special reception honoring and recognizing those labs with 40 years of accreditation. The August edition of The Synergist® will be the commemorative lab accreditation issue. To contribute photos and other information for the history wall, please e-mail Cheryl O. Morton or call (703) 846-0789.
