The transfer of the AIHA® Guideline Foundation's Workplace Environmental Exposure Levels® (WEELs) development process to Toxicology Excellence for Risk Assessment (TERA) under the Occupational Alliance for Risk Science (OARS) initiative has been finalized. WEELs are airborne concentration limits that provide guidance for protecting most workers from adverse health effects related to occupational chemical exposures. The table of WEEL values will be made available on the TERA website.
“The WEEL values have been an extremely important addition to the various OEL values available for use by industrial hygienists in their efforts to protect worker health,” said Barbara J. Dawson, CIH, CSP, president of the AIHA Guideline Foundation Board. “We’re confident that the OARS initiative managed by TERA will continue to support that work by developing additional WEEL values as well as reviewing and updating current WEEL values.”
Existing AIHA Guideline Foundation and TERA OARS WEELs will also continue to be available on AIHA's website. AIHA will continue to print these values in the ERPG/ WEEL Handbook.
