New AIHA Video Highlights Growing Up in an IH Family

Posted April 3, 2014

In the latest video in the AIHA® Thought Leaders series, Chandra Gioiello talks about what it means to grow up in a family of industrial hygienists. Gioiello, a second-generation IH, has been working in the hazard communication area of industrial hygiene for more than seven years.

“I think the interesting thing about my family is that my parents actually met each other at an AIHA conference in the ’70s,” says Gioiello. “I was about 13 years old when we went to AIHce in San Francisco, and it was my first time going there. We would tend to arrange our family vacations around the AIHA conferences.”

Gioiello authors safety data sheets and labels, and assists clients with their chemical regulatory needs. She has given presentations and trained others on the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals at various meetings at the local and national level.

The Thought Leaders project, developed in conjunction with AIHA's 75th anniversary, is a series of videos that captures the stories of influential AIHA members. These videos offer multiple perspectives on the evolution of industrial hygiene and the efforts of industry leaders to adjust to new challenges, new occupational hazards, and new technologies for protecting workers.

The Thought Leaders series will run through the end of 2014.
