NIOSH has released a draft document, Criteria for a Recommended Standard: Occupational Exposure to Heat and Hot Environments, according to a notice published in the Federal Register on Dec. 27. A public meeting to discuss the document is scheduled for Feb. 13.
According to the Federal Register notice, recent research and the experience of the response to the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill have raised concerns about the need to update the current NIOSH criteria document, which was published in 1986. The meeting will address questions regarding worker acclimatization, hydration, additional risk factors for heat-related illness, and other concerns.
The meeting will be held at Robert A. Taft Laboratories in Cincinnati. Individuals interested in attending are encouraged to register by Feb. 5 with the NIOSH Docket Office. More information is available from the Federal Register.
