NIOSH's N95 Day to Focus on Protection Against Particulates

Published August 8, 2018

AIHA is an official partner of NIOSH’s N95 Day, a day the agency sets aside annually to emphasize the importance of the proper use of NIOSH-approved N95 filtering facepiece respirators in the workplace. This year, N95 Day will be observed on Wednesday, Sept. 5. NIOSH encourages employers, respiratory protection program managers, and safety managers in all industries that rely on N95 respiratory protection to take time on N95 Day to focus on safety and familiarize themselves with NIOSH’s resources on respiratory protection. AIHA plans to support NIOSH by using its social media channels to share respiratory protection resources and join the online conversation using the hashtag #N95Day. Follow NIOSH on Facebook, Twitter, the NIOSH Science Blog, and Instagram. The NIOSH National Personal Protective Technology Laboratory will participate in N95 Day using its separate Twitter account. Individuals can connect with AIHA on social media via Twitter, LinkedIn, and Facebook.

Since 2012, NIOSH has used N95 Day to primarily focus on N95 respirators. This year, the agency plans to focus on respiratory protection against particulates and to share the science behind its established guidelines and recommendations for respiratory protection. During NIOSH’s annual N95 Day webinar on Sept. 5, a panel of agency experts will discuss trending topics in respiratory protection, including facial hair and respirator use, NIOSH-approved surgical N95s, and the importance of using the NIOSH Certified Equipment List. Following their presentations, the webinar speakers will field participants’ questions about respiratory protection. Individuals can register for the free N95 Day webinar online.
