Earlier this week, NIOSH and OSHA released a new recommended practices document that includes information for staffing agencies and host employers to better protect temporary workers. According to the new guidance, staffing agency and host employer contracts should clearly define temporary workers’ tasks and state which employer is responsible for specific health and safety duties.
The new document also recommends that staffing agencies and host employers jointly review all work sites where a temporary worker might be sent, train staffing agency representatives to recognize safety and health hazards, and exchange and review each other’s injury and illness prevention program to ensure the employer meets or exceeds the other’s standards. NIOSH and OSHA highlight the importance of tracking workplace injuries and illnesses and recommend staffing agencies and host employers share this information to help prevent future injuries.
