OSHA Extends Comment Period on Proposed Silica Rule to Feb. 11

Published January 29, 2014

OSHA has extended the public comment period for its notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) on occupational exposure to crystalline silica for an additional 15 days to provide more time for stakeholder input, the agency announced Jan. 24. The new deadline to submit comments is Feb. 11, 2014.

OSHA extended the comment period in response to concerns about possible confusion due to an error on Regulations.gov, the federal government’s online portal for submitting comments on rulemakings. Stakeholders may submit comments electronically by clicking the “Comment Now!” button on the docket page for the proposed rule.

OSHA’s NPRM for respirable crystalline silica was published in the Sept. 12 issue of the Federal Register. The agency made the proposed rule available on its website on Aug. 23.
