With the 4th of July just around the corner, OSHA is reminding employers in the fireworks and pyrotechnics industry to protect workers from hazards while manufacturing, storing, transporting, displaying, and selling fireworks. OSHA’s safety and health topic page for the pyrotechnics industry provides resources that address the common hazards and controls for workers involved in the retail sale of fireworks and for those who work on fireworks displays. The agency’s resources also include a 30-minute video, “Fireworks Safety in Manufacturing and Retail Sales,” that demonstrates best industry practices based on National Fire Protection Association consensus standards.
Just last week, an explosion at a fireworks facility killed one worker and injured two others, according to OSHA. Washington state occupational safety and health officials are currently investigating the incident.
