A Decade of Progress and Achievement

As AIHA members are aware, I have made the difficult decision not to renew my contract at the end of this year. As a result, I will be stepping down from my role as CEO of AIHA after ten years of service.

During AIHA Connect in New Orleans a few weeks ago, members of our Fellows Special Interest Group invited me to share a few remarks of my choosing. As I reflected on what would be most meaningful, I decided to look back on the remarkable progress our association has made over the past decade and developed a brief presentation highlighting some of our key accomplishments.

To help tell that story, we gathered AIHA annual reports from the past ten years and used an AI tool to identify common themes and trends. The results were both insightful and affirming.

Across the decade, AIHA has evolved from a member-focused professional association into a globally recognized authority in occupational and environmental health and safety, with significant progress in several areas:

  • public health leadership, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic
  • expansion of education, training, and digital resources
  • increased government relations and advocacy influence
  • growth of global partnerships and collaboration
  • resumption of occupational exposure limit (OEL) development
  • strengthening of the workforce pipeline

I invite you to view the presentation (PDF) and reflect on how far we have come together. More importantly, I hope it provides a glimpse into the strong foundation and exciting opportunities that lie ahead for AIHA as we continue to advance the OEHS profession and protect worker health around the world.
