A Meeting That Explores Diverse Scientific Interests

Every year, the Society of Toxicology (SOT) hosts more than 5,000 toxicologists for a five-day whirlwind of science, mentoring, networking, exhibits, and fun. Planning this yearly event is no small feat, especially when you’re trying to produce sessions that appeal to everyone from drug developers and industrial hygienists to academicians and environmental toxicologists.

To ensure that the interests of the Society’s broad membership are met each year, SOT relies heavily on its Component Groups—our Regional Chapters, Special Interest Groups, and Specialty Sections—to identify the scientific session proposals that present the strongest and most interesting science in their respective areas. These sessions are then carefully reviewed by the dedicated SOT Scientific Program Committee to determine the nearly 60 scientific sessions that are presented each year.

For the upcoming SOT 64th Annual Meeting and ToxExpo, which will take place March 16–20, 2025, in Orlando, Florida, this process resulted in sessions that run the gamut of topics of interest for those working in occupational health, risk assessment, and regulatory and safety evaluations. Some of the 2025 sessions focus on specific populations, such as military personnel and firefighters, while others explore scientific topics such as the effects of nonchemical stressors, new approach methodologies for assessing risk, and more. In total, the SOT Occupational and Public Health, Regulatory and Safety Evaluation, and Risk Assessment Specialty Sections endorsed nearly 30 sessions that are part of the 2025 program.

These scientific sessions, though, are not the only way that scientists connect during the SOT meeting. The Component Groups host daily mentoring events and breakfasts, luncheons, and receptions to further encourage connection and collaboration. These activities allow those with similar interests to converge and celebrate accomplishments, forge new relationships, and continue friendships.

The ToxExpo portion of the conference offers additional ways to create new connections. Featuring more than 275 exhibit booths, this three-day event offers opportunities to discover the latest technology and innovations, as well as establish partnerships for furthering your research or career.

SOT invites all AIHA members to join the Society in Orlando in March 2025 because SOT values the wide range of individuals working in toxicology—even if they don’t call themselves toxicologists!
