Registration Opens for Silica in the Oilfield Summit 2.0

Registration is now open for the second Silica in the Oilfield Summit, a free virtual event organized by the National Occupational Research Agenda’s Oil and Gas Extraction Council that will be held April 13–14, 2021. On those days, from 12–4 p.m. EDT, industrial hygienists and occupational and environmental health and safety professionals are invited to attend a series of presentations on silica exposures in the oil and gas industry, given by representatives from NIOSH, OSHA, and industry partners.

These presentations will inform attendees of developments relevant to the control of respirable crystalline silica (RCS) that have occurred since the first Silica in the Oilfield Summit in March 2018. Topics will include advances in engineering controls and their effectiveness, an update to the OSHA RCS Standard on engineering control obligations for hydraulic fracking operations, and several companies’ experiences with applying the hierarchy of controls to RCS.

The event will be hosted on Zoom by the Colorado School of Public Health’s Center for Health, Work, and Environment. A complete agenda is provided on NORA’s website along with abstracts for each of the presentations (PDF). A virtual flier for the event is also available for download (PDF).
