Safe + Sound Week 2022 to Be Held August 15–21

Workplaces are invited to participate in Safe + Sound Week, an annual event held to highlight the successes of workplace health and safety programs, which OSHA says help businesses prevent injuries and illnesses, improve compliance with laws and regulations, reduce costs, engage workers, enhance social responsibility goals, increase productivity, and improve overall business operations. Another purpose of Safe + Sound Week is to disseminate information and ideas on improving workplace health and safety. The 2022 event will be held August 15–21.

Five challenges are among the activities that OSHA suggests managers and others complete during Safe + Sound Week. For example, the “Eyes on Safety” challenge focuses on the workplace inspection as a tool for identifying and resolving hazards and encourages participants to conduct safety walkarounds. The “Lead with Safety” challenge urges managers to identify a health or safety issue in the workplace and take action to address it. The other three challenges focus on worker participation, management leadership, and identifying and controlling workplace hazards. Instructions for taking these challenges can be found on OSHA’s website.

Safe + Sound Week is also intended to promote access to workplace health and safety resources. Brochures, recorded webinars, and programs for boosting managerial and worker engagement are available for download on the Safe + Sound Week website, and participating organizations that complete their Safe + Sound Week events can download a certificate and a virtual challenge coin.

AIHA is an organizer of Safe + Sound Week, along with OSHA, NIOSH, and other organizations. A full list of Safe + Sound Week supporters is available on OSHA’s website.
