AIHA Members to Present at Webinar on Infection Control

An upcoming webinar to be held by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) will focus on how occupational and environmental health and safety professionals can work to balance infection control needs among other concerns during an infectious disease outbreak. For example, an environmental cost associated with an outbreak might be the increased use of disposable personal protective equipment, which can generate more waste and pollution. AIHA members Sharon Beard, director of the NIEHS Worker Training Program, and Aurora Le, associate professor at Texas A&M University, are scheduled to speak at this event, which will take place via Microsoft Teams on Wednesday, June 25, at 1 p.m. ET. Beard and Le will discuss how values such as infectious disease management, human health promotion, and environmental protection may conflict during the management of outbreaks.

“[A]ttendees will learn how workers, health and safety professionals, and other interested parties must balance patients' needs for health care, public interest in pathogen control and containment, and the environmental impact of waste for proper infection control in workplaces and other settings,” the webinar description states.

Individuals interested in attending the webinar can register at no cost. For further details, please visit the webinar page.
