CDC Seeks Experts in IH, Related Fields to Serve on Advisory Committee

CDC seeks nominations of experts in fields such as industrial hygiene, occupational safety and health engineering, and ergonomics for membership on the Mine Safety and Health Research Advisory Committee (MSHRAC). The committee comprises up to 10 appointed members who advise the secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services and the directors of CDC and NIOSH on matters related to mine health and safety research. Up to six of the members represent the coal, metal/nonmetal, and stone, sand, and gravel mining sectors, and the others are selected from relevant organizations focused on research and public health and safety. According to the CDC website, MSHRAC evaluates the degree to which mine research activities address current mine safety and health needs and the extent to which NIOSH research conforms to “standards of scientific excellence … in accomplishing objectives in mine safety and health.”

Individuals who are interested in serving on MSHRAC may nominate themselves or have the person or organization recommending them as a candidate submit their nomination. Those selected may be invited to serve for up to four years. The Federal Register notice soliciting MSHRAC nominations states that CDC will retain the nominations it receives for up to two years and may contact additional nominees should any vacancies occur.

Additional details can be found in the Federal Register. Nominations for membership on MSHRAC must be submitted by April 22 to be considered for the current membership cycle.
