$12.7 Million in Training Grants Available from OSHA

OSHA’s Susan Harwood Training Grant Program is accepting applications through July 31 for grants to support training and education that help workers and employers identify and prevent workplace safety and health hazards. The grants are prioritized for small businesses, high-hazard industries, and workers who face barriers to accessing health and safety training.

Grants are available in two categories: targeted topic training and training materials development. A total of $12.7 million is available to nonprofits, including community-based, faith-based, and grassroots organizations; employer associations; labor unions; joint labor-management associations; Indian tribes; and public or state colleges and universities. Entities that operate OSHA On-Site Consultation Programs and OSHA Training Institute Education Centers are also eligible to apply.

Susan Harwood was a former director of OSHA’s Office of Risk Assessment who helped develop OSHA standards on bloodborne pathogens, cotton dust, benzene, formaldehyde, asbestos, and lead in construction. Since 2001, nearly 1.9 million trainees have participated in the program.

More information is available from the Harwood Training Grant Program website and an OSHA press release.
