CDC Seeks Experts for World Trade Center Health Program Committee

CDC seeks nominations for individuals to serve on the World Trade Center Health Program Scientific/Technical Advisory Committee. The committee makes recommendations on the addition of health conditions to the list of certified WTC-related health conditions and eligibility criteria for the WTC Health Program. The program is administered by NIOSH and provides medical monitoring and treatment to individuals with health conditions related to the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. According to a notice in the Federal Register, the committee comprises 17 experts from various fields, including industrial hygiene, environmental health, toxicology, and occupational medicine. CDC aims to find new committee members from the occupational physician and environmental medicine or environmental health professions, as well as a representative for WTC responders.

The James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act of 2010, which established the WTC Health Program, specifies the make-up of the committee and requires the inclusion of at least one industrial hygienist. Committee members’ terms may last up to four years, and the frequency of meetings is based on the program’s needs.

Nominations for the WTC Health Program Scientific/Technical Advisory Committee are due Nov. 13. More information, including an explanation of how to submit nominations, is available in the Federal Register.
