NIOSH Recognizes Manufacturer Request to Rescind Three Respirator Approvals

Air Filtration Solutions Ltd., a U.K.-based manufacturer, has voluntarily rescinded three respirator approvals, according to a notice published on the NIOSH website this month. The rescission affects an N95 filtering facepiece respirator with exhalation valve, an N99 filtering facepiece respirator, and an N100 filtering facepiece respirator. According to the notice (PDF), respirators bearing the approval numbers 84A-9253, 84A-9402, and 84A-9403 are no longer approved by NIOSH and may not be used, manufactured, assembled, sold, or distributed. Individuals who would like additional information regarding this decision should contact Air Filtration Solutions, the agency says.

This and other announcements about changes to respirator models’ approval status are collected on a NIOSH Respirator Approval Program webpage. Users can confirm that a device or component is valid through the NIOSH Certified Equipment List.
