NIOSH Research Health Scientist to Present Online Seminar on Heat Stress
An upcoming online seminar offered by the Johns Hopkins Center for Injury Research and Policy will focus on NIOSH guidance on occupational heat stress. The agency’s Brenda Jacklitsch, a research health scientist, will discuss NIOSH-recommended exposure limits and practical prevention strategies for heat stress as well as ongoing NIOSH activities in this area. Other topics on the agenda include current heat standards and rulemaking related to the prevention of heat-related injury and illness.
Jacklitsch was the lead project officer for the NIOSH Criteria for a Recommended Standard: Occupational Exposure to Heat and Hot Environments, which was published in February 2016. She is also the author of a Synergist article on heat hazards that appeared in the April 2016 issue and has contributed to NIOSH research, guidance, and educational efforts intended to help prevent heat illness among workers.
The seminar is scheduled to be held Nov. 9 from 12:10 to 1:20 p.m. ET and is open to all. Jacklitsch’s presentation is part of the seminar series’ second term, which focuses on occupational safety.
