OSHA Webinar to Focus on Warehouse Safety
An OSHA webinar scheduled for 2–3:30 p.m. ET on Nov. 17 will discuss strategies for identifying and controlling hazards in warehouses. According to OSHA’s website, workers in these environments face hazards related to ergonomics, powered vehicles, materials handling, chemicals, electricity, heat, refrigeration systems, stress, and fatigue, among others. Webinar attendees will learn about powered industrial truck safety, ergonomic approaches to material handling, and methods for assessing the risks of chemical exposures and thermal stressors.
As reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, approximately 1.8 million people are employed in the warehousing and storage subsector in the United States. The most recent BLS data indicate there were 28 fatalities among warehouse and storage workers in 2023 and 32 in 2024, and the total 2024 recordable injury and illness rate of 4.8 per 100 full-time workers was the ninth-highest among all subsectors.
The webinar will be co-hosted by OSHA’s Atlanta Regional Office and Georgia Tech’s OSHA 21(d) Consultation Program, which provides confidential occupational health and safety consulting services to small and medium-sized businesses in Georgia.
