International Organizations Launch Global Coalition on Occupational Safety and Health

The Global Coalition on Occupational Safety and Health was launched on Tuesday at the Vision Zero Summit in Helsinki, Finland. The coalition is intended to implement commitments related to worker health and safety that have been made in global forums during the last decade. These forums include the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals; the Group of 7, or G7, an intergovernmental economic organization comprising Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States; the Group of 20, or G20, an international forum for the governments and central bank governors from 19 countries and the European Union; and the EU OSH Strategy. According to the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health, the coalition was established on Finland’s initiative with a group of founding partners including the International Labor Organization, the International Commission on Occupational Health, the European Commission, the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work, and the Ministry of Manpower of Singapore. The World Health Organization will participate as an observer.

ILO will chair the steering committee of the coalition. The coalition also includes representatives from the EU, the International Commission on Occupational Health, and several countries, including Chile, Croatia, Iraq, South Africa, and Portugal.
