Webinars Will Address Musculoskeletal Disorders, Whole-Body Vibration

Two upcoming webinars in a series sponsored by the Center for Occupational and Environmental Health at the University of California, Berkeley will address musculoskeletal disorders and whole-body vibration.

On March 20, Carisa Harris, PhD, PT, CPE, will present “From Practice to Policy: CA’s New Standard for Reducing MSDs Among Hotel Room Cleaners.” The webinar will discuss the research that supported California’s Hotel Housekeeping Musculoskeletal Injury Prevention Standard, the first ergonomic standard specific to hotel room cleaners, which the Cal-OSHA Standards Board enacted in July 2018. Harris is an assistant professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of California at San Francisco, and in the School of Public Health at the University of California at Berkeley. She is also the director of the UCSF/UCB Ergonomics Research and Graduate Training Program and the Deputy Director of the Northern California Center of Occupational and Environmental Health. Visit the COEH website for more information or to register.

On April 17, Peter Johnson, PhD, will present “Vehicle Seat Design, Whole Body Vibration, and Low Back Pain.” The webinar will cover the causes, prevalence, and costs of whole-body vibration-related disorders. Topics to be addressed include how whole-body vibration exposures are measured, assessed, and characterized, and the role vehicle seats may play in reducing whole-body vibration-related injuries and disorders. Johnson is a professor in the Occupational and Environmental Exposure Sciences program at the University of Washington. Register on the COEH website.
