Is safety culture driven from the top down or the bottom up? What if leadership is already on board, but your employees still don't seem to get it? Convincing front-line employees to follow safety procedures can be frustrating. Learn how to have a conversation about safety using the Make Safety Personal conversation worksheet, along with real-world tips for selling safety to front-line supervisors.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion, participants will be able to:

  • Discuss strategies for influencing others to do something you want them to do.
  • Discuss the importance of presentation skills and non-verbal communication.
  • Demonstrate how to have a "Make Safety Personal" conversation.

Presenter

Patrick Karol’s work in the safety field began as a front-line supervisor with safety as a collateral duty, and now involves advising senior leaders on strategies to reduce risk. His experience includes 20 years in the corporate safety departments of two Fortune 500 companies and the Federal government. He currently works as a safety and health consultant.

In every position and role throughout his career, Pat made it his mission to "make safety personal,” to ensure leaders see the people behind the numbers, and to highlight significant success stories. His philosophy on safety can be summed up with this quote from Doctor Seuss “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.”
