OSHA Seeks Input on the GHS Ahead of Upcoming UN Meeting

OSHA will gather public input regarding the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) via a docket and during a virtual meeting to be held on June 23. The agency plans to consider the information it collects when developing the U.S. government positions for the next in-person meeting of the United Nations Subcommittee of Experts on the GHS (UNSCEGHS), which will be held July 8–10 in Geneva, Switzerland. Individuals who are interested in attending OSHA’s virtual meeting should email Janet Carter in the agency’s Directorate of Standards and Guidance. Those who would prefer to provide written comments have until July 7 to submit them via the docket on Regulations.gov.

Details about the June 23 OSHA virtual meeting are available from the agency’s website. A provisional agenda for the July meeting of the UNSCEGHS can be found on the website of the UN Economic Commission for Europe along with working and informal documents submitted for the upcoming sessions of the UNSCEGHS. The documents cover a variety of topics, including simple asphyxiants and proposed amendments to precautionary statements.
