OEHS professionals have a vital responsibility: protecting the health and safety of workers and the public. That responsibility extends beyond simply appearing ethical, it demands a genuine, consistent commitment to ethical practice. As AI tools reshape our profession and public trust in science faces new challenges, the need for ethical clarity has never been greater.

This webinar explores the core principles that guide ethical decision-making in today’s evolving landscape. Participants will gain insight into the responsible use of AI tools and learn a practical new algorithm designed to evaluate ethics cases with confidence and rigor.

Presenters

Alan Leibowitz, CIH, CSP, FAIHA
Alan Leibowitz is the President of EHS Systems Solutions LLC (EHS-SS) following a 30+ year career as the senior Environment, Safety, Health, and Security leader for ITT Corporation. At EHS-SS Alan provides executive-level support in strategic planning, program management and crisis response for leading global corporations. He is a frequent speaker on Environmental and Safety Management and contributed chapters on the subject to current editions of the textbooks The Occupational Environment: It’s Evaluation, Control, and Management and Patty’s Industrial Hygiene.

David C. Roskelley, MSPH, CIH, CSP, FAIHA
David Roskelley has a Masters degree in Public Health with an emphasis in Industrial Hygiene from the University of Utah/Rocky Mountain Center for Occupational and Environmental Health (RMCOEH) and currently teaches as an adjunct faculty member. Mr. Roskelley is a Board Certified Safety Professional (CSP) as well as a Board Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH). He served on the Board and as Chair of the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH) and has previously served on the AIHA Board as a Director. Mr. Roskelley is also the founding partner of R&R Environmental, Inc. a comprehensive safety, health, and environmental consulting firm based in Sandy, Utah (United States).

Additionally, Mr. Roskelley is the past chair of the National AIHA Joint Industrial Hygiene Ethics Education Committee (JIHEEC). Additionally, he chaired the Joint Ethics Task Force consisting of representatives of AIHA, ACGIH, AIH, and ABIH, which was responsible for overseeing the adoption of a new, comprehensive system of ethical standards for the industrial hygiene profession.

Mr. Roskelley is also an avid mountain climber who enjoys doing difficult things. He set a personal goal to climb the “7 summits” or the highest mountains on each of the seven continents. To date, he has climbed all seven and accomplished his goal. His next goal has been to climb the “Volcanic Seven Summits”: or the highest volcano on each of the seven continents. On January 18, 2020, he reached the summit of Mount Sidley in Antarctica thus becoming the first American to complete this challenge. He successfully reached the South Pole in 2024. His next goal is to travel to the North Pole. Stay tuned.

Mark Katchen, MSPH, CIH, FAIHA
Mark Katchen is the Managing Principal for The Phylmar Group, Inc. with expertise in industrial hygiene, toxicology, occupational health, risk communication and sustainable supply chain practices. His consulting expertise includes helping organizations optimize the EHS/Sustainability function by focusing on mission alignment, resource allocation and utilization, business process improvement, and demonstrating the value of EHS/Sustainability to the organization. Mr. Katchen has more than 40 years of experience in occupational and environmental exposure assessment in such industries as petrochemical, agriculture, mining, utilities and automotive. Additionally, he is a Certified Industrial Hygienist. Mr. Katchen has taught at the University of California, Los Angeles and Irvine campuses. Mr. Katchen is a past chair of the American Industrial Hygiene Association’s International Affairs Committee and the Joint Industrial Hygiene Ethics Education Committee. He is a frequent lecturer to business and academic groups on environmental risk assessment, management, communication, ethics and sustainable business practices and is the author of several published technical and business-related articles as well as an upcoming book on professional ethics. He received his B.A. in Psychobiology from UCLA, M.S. in Environmental and Occupational Health from California State University, Northridge, and M.B.A. from Loyola Marymount University.
