Risk assessments are an essential component of industrial hygiene, providing a structured approach for evaluating occupational exposures to hazardous workplace conditions and guiding the implementation of controls that safeguard workers. In the United States, OSHA requires employers to assess the workplace for existing or potential hazards, determine the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) needed to protect employees, and clearly communicate those PPE decisions. Despite these requirements, translating exposure data and risk evaluation results into defensible PPE decisions can be challenging for practitioners.

In this webinar, we will walk through the industrial hygiene risk assessment process, including the primary routes of exposure, methods for characterizing exposures, and the decision‑making steps involved in selecting measures to protect the workforce. The session will emphasize practical considerations and real world application, helping participants make informed, clearly communicated PPE recommendations that support worker protection and regulatory compliance.

Learning Objectives
After this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Explain and apply the industrial hygiene risk evaluation matrix to assess workplace hazards.
  • Identify common industrial hygiene related exposures and associated routes of exposure.
  • Prioritize occupational exposures based on risk characterization and exposure potential.
  • Determine and communicate appropriate PPE selections to effectively protect the workforce.
