
Scope of Work
The Pr(IH)de Special Interest Group (SIG) supports and promotes the professional growth and development of industrial hygiene (IH) and occupational and environmental health and safety (OEHS) professionals who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, or any other sexual orientation and gender identity, as well as their allies and supporters. Through networking, mentorship, and research, Pr(IH)de SIG fosters a visible and inclusive environment that promotes the health, safety, and well-being of its members and advances diversity, equity, and inclusion across the IH and OEHS professions. Membership is open to all who share that commitment.
Goals and Objectives
The purpose of the Pr(IH)de SIG is to foster a visible and inclusive environment that promotes the health, safety, and well-being of its members, allowing for open and supportive dialogue and opportunities for collaboration.
Mentorship and Support
Provide mentorship and support for LGBTQ+ professionals at all stages of their education and career.
Research and Advocacy
Advocate for the advancement of research related to the health, safety, and well-being of LGBTQ+ individuals in the workplace, with an emphasis on improving and safeguarding their psychological health and safety.
Strategic Partnerships
Engage with other established AIHA committees and working groups to develop strategic partnerships to further key initiatives and objectives.
External Outreach
Establish outreach to allied organizations whose thought leadership can benefit the group and the professionals it serves.

Current Projects
- Rainbow Paper — A white paper with training tools for OEHS professionals related to LGBTQ+ people and workplace health and safety, developed in collaboration with partner committees.
- Non-Binary IH Hero — A project celebrating and elevating non-binary representation in the industrial hygiene profession.

Collaboration Efforts
Pr(IH)de SIG collaborates with the following AIHA groups to research, identify, support, and advance professional growth and education at the intersection of psychosocial health, worker health and safety, organizational diversity, and workplace inclusion:
- Women in IH
- Minority SIG (MSIG)
- Total Worker Health (TWH) Committee
- Social Concerns Committee
Collaborative efforts have included webinars, professional talking points, and the ongoing Rainbow Paper white paper project.
Group Dynamics
Pr(IH)de SIG is a small but mighty group of members with varied backgrounds and expertise united by a common goal: making workplaces healthy and safe for all people. The group offers a welcoming, family-like environment where every member is encouraged to be themselves, share their voice, and contribute to the work. Everyone is welcome.
