Scope of Work
The AIHA Military and Uniformed Services Support Committee (MUSSC) advances the professional success and well-being of military and uniformed services occupational and environmental health and safety (OEHS) professionals by fostering connection, mentorship, and advocacy. Through a strong, inclusive network, MUSSC supports career development, facilitates transition to civilian practice, and serves as a trusted resource on the unique exposures and challenges faced by those who serve.
Goals and Objectives
MUSSC has created a community of networked military and uniformed services personnel. In turn, this community is poised to build a larger community of support.
Networking and Mentoring
Provide support to military and uniformed service members pursuing OEHS careers.
Transitioning Members
Provide specialized assistance to members transitioning from military to civilian careers.
Exposures to Military and Uniformed Personnel
Serve as a resource on the unique exposures for these members.
Early Career Support
Serve as a resource for early career Military and Uniformed Services Personnel within AIHA.

Current Projects
- Creation of repositories for military friendly employers, positions, and transitioning sources.
- Development of a guide to help translate military positions and ranks into corresponding civilian positions.
- Development of a questionnaire to help in the assessment of longitudinal exposures over time during military service.
- Compiling information for VA Welcome Kit and enhancing Veteran Employment Project.
- Sourcing relevant information for committee member education, including identification and coordination of guest speakers and Q&A sessions.

Group Dynamics
The Military and Uniformed Services Support Committee (MUSSC) is open to all AIHA members. Established in 2024, the committee is actively building an engaged and supportive community for AIHA members with military and uniformed services backgrounds. Through collaboration, shared experience, and ongoing engagement, MUSSC fosters connection, professional growth, and mutual support within this unique member population.
Qualifications to Join
Any practicing Industrial Hygienist, preferably one that has an interest in:
- Mentorship, networking, and transition support for current and former uniformed services members and those interested in the field of IH within the services.
- Identification, documentation, and information access of potential service-related exposures to past and current service members.
