Respirator User Safety Notice Issued by 3M Scott Fire & Safety
Some sensor modules for a self-contained breathing apparatus manufactured by 3M Scott Fire & Safety were shipped with the incorrect brand of battery, which invalidates the units’ intrinsic safety approval, according to a respirator user notice (PDF) published in November. The notice explains that a small number of Air-Pak X3 Pro Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus Pak-Alert Sensor Modules were inadvertently shipped with Rayovac brand batteries, which are not approved for use. 3M Scott Fire & Safety provides instructions for identifying and replacing the batteries in these units if necessary.
The recent notice can be found on the respirator user notices page of the NIOSH National Personal Protective Technology Equipment Laboratory website, which lists notices from manufacturers regarding conditions or risks that may exist with NIOSH-certified products.
