EPA to Host Webinar on Risk Assessment for Mixed Metal Oxides
An upcoming EPA webinar will discuss the agency’s new process for assessing risk and mitigating exposures to mixed metal oxides (MMOs) used in cathode active materials (CAMs). In October 2022, EPA issued an advisory (PDF) indicating that MMOs, including CAMs and modified CAMs, are subject to the requirements for new chemicals specified in section 5 of the Toxic Substances Control Act, which requires EPA to be notified prior to manufacture or import of these substances. Also in October, EPA announced a streamlined process for assessing risk and applying mitigation measures for MMOs and CAMs.
In addition to their uses as components of lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles, MMOs are also used in ceramics and as catalysts and adsorbents.
Interested participants are required to register for the upcoming webinar, which will be held at 1 p.m. ET on March 30. The webinar is the continuation of an initial webinar held in November. Presentation materials from the first webinar are available as a PDF.
