In Memoriam: Thomas C. Goob II
Editor’s note: AIHA thanks the members of the Yuma Pacific Southwest section who sent in this remembrance of Thomas C. Goob II.
Longtime AIHA and Yuma Pacific Southwest (YPSW) Local Section member Thomas C. Goob II, MPH, MBA, CSP, CIH, passed away suddenly on Sept. 11, 2019. He was 48. Tom was vice president of quality, safety, and risk management at Diagnostic Laboratory Services, Inc., in Hawaii for 16 years before he moved back to the mainland in 2017 to work with the city and county of San Francisco, Calif., and as a principal consultant with Harris and Lee Environmental. Tom received a Master of Public Health degree from the University of Hawaii and an MBA from Chaminade University of Honolulu. He was certified as both an industrial hygienist and a safety professional. In addition to his professional responsibilities, he contributed to the industrial hygiene profession as a lecturer in occupational and environmental safety management at Honolulu Community College for 16 years.
Tom served the AIHA community as president of the AIHA Hawaii Local Section for seven years and a member of the YPSW Local Section for over 17 years. He was the self-appointed “Island Ambassador” and gracious host to YPSW mainlanders for the local section’s 2002 meeting in Honolulu. AIHA member Jas Singh remembers Tom as “a guy you wanted to share a beverage and conversation with.” Anna Davis remembers Tom as a kind and always helpful young man who was an energetic and tireless participant in YPSW meetings. His full obituary was published in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and is also available online.
