How Presenting at Conferences Changed My Life

When I first began presenting sessions and professional development courses at AIHce EXP, the predecessor of AIHA Connect, I would not have predicted it would land me a plum position at UC Davis, propel me to a Caribbean island, and earn me praise from my peers. I’ve had a nearly 40-year career in occupational and environmental health and safety, as well as a wonderful life full of positive experiences. Much of this resulted directly from my conference sessions and PDCs. I’m grateful I took the chance to propose, speak, and teach.

An Introduction to Sampling Quality Assurance is scheduled for release this summer! Read the following excerpt to learn more about the scope and objectives of this new manual:
Failing to apply quality assurance measures during sample collection effectively undermines—even nullifies—the rigorous quality assurance practices applied during laboratory analysis. No matter how precise or validated the analytical methods are, they cannot compensate for poor sampling practices.
Despite the importance of quality assurance in sampling, one could argue that there is a lack of readily available information on this subject. An Introduction to Sampling Quality Assurance attempts to fill this knowledge gap by addressing the elements required to collect quality industrial hygiene samples. The manual guides OEHS professionals through the planning and execution of a sampling strategy to ensure that their objectives are met, possible errors have been addressed, and results are representative and legally defensible.

Help Select the AIHA Connect 2027 Education Program
AIHA is seeking active committee members to serve as PDC and/or Education Program technical reviewers.
A technical reviewer serves as a subject matter expert and reviews education proposal submissions to ensure they are scientifically sound, innovative, and relevant to the profession.
The technical review process occurs entirely online between September 14-28, and before the reviews by the Continuing Education Committee and Conference Program Committee. The feedback from technical reviewers assists these committees in the selection of the final AIHA Connect 2027 education program. The review process is blind, and no submitter information is shared. Training is provided at a virtual Town Hall on Thursday, August 27 at 2:00 p.m. ET.
