AIHA Members Appointed to OSHA Advisory Committee
FALLS CHURCH, Va. (Aug. 30, 2023)—AIHA members Andrew Perkins and Michael Larrañaga have been appointed by Acting Secretary of Labor Julie Su to serve on the National Advisory Committee on Occupational Safety and Health (NACOSH). Since its establishment in 1970, NACOSH has advised, consulted with, and made recommendations on matters relating to occupational safety and health to the secretaries of the departments of labor and health and human services. The committee’s 12 members represent the public, management, labor, and the occupational health and safety professions. Perkins has been appointed as a management representative, and Larrañaga has been appointed as a public representative.
Perkins is a senior industrial hygienist for Alabama Power Company and a coauthor of the fourth edition of A Strategy for Assessing and Managing Occupational Exposures, developed by AIHA’s Exposure Assessments Strategy Committee. “As a staunch believer that the industrial hygiene profession is a mission-critical component towards better outcomes for workers, employers, and communities,” said Perkins, “I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve on NACOSH.”
Larrañaga is the founding principal and president of R.E.M. Risk Consultants, a safety, health, and risk management consulting firm. He is also editor-in-chief of The Journal of Occupational and Environmental Hygiene. “I’m honored to be appointed to NACOSH, and I look forward to working with like minds who strive to improve workplace health and safety,” said Larrañaga.
NACOSH members are chosen based on their knowledge and experience in occupational safety and health. For AIHA CEO Lawrence D.
