Sixth Edition of Noise Manual Wins 2022 AIHA Critics’ Choice Award
Falls Church, VA (May 01, 2023)– AIHA’s Content Portfolio Advisory Group has selected The Noise Manual, sixth edition, as the winner of the 2022 Critics’ Choice Award. This publication addresses noise-related issues in workplaces and communities, with a focus on hearing-loss prevention strategies, and is also the association’s 2022 bestseller. The sixth edition editors—Deanna K. Meinke, PhD, CCC-A, Elliot H. Berger, MS, FAIHA, Richard L. Neitzel, PhD, CIH, FAIHA, Dennis P. Driscoll, PE, FAIHA, and Kathryn Bright, PhD—will be recognized at AIHA’s Mark of Excellence award ceremony on May 22, which will be held during the association’s conference, AIHce EXP 2023, in Phoenix, Arizona.
The Noise Manual, sixth edition, sold 448 copies in 2022, making it AIHA’s bestselling publication for that year. The book’s focus on hearing loss prevention strategies, combined with its coverage of noise-related issues within the workplace and the community, has made it a significant resource for health and safety professionals, including audiologists, across many industries. Chuck Geraci, the chair of AIHA Content Portfolio Advisory Group (CPAG), described The Noise Manual as “an essential reference on the critical issue of occupational noise and hearing loss prevention.”
“For anyone working in the field of noise control and abatement,” Geraci said, “this manual offers the latest strategies and techniques for identifying and mitigating noise-related risks in the workplace and the community.”
The Critics’ Choice Award recognizes publications that are noteworthy for their originality, quality of work, and impact on the occupational and environmental health and safety profession. When selecting Critics’ Choice winners, CPAG critically evaluates all publications from the previous year. Previous Critics’ Choice Award-winning publications include The Role of the Industrial Hygienist in a Pandemic, second edition (PDF). AIHA’s bestselling publication for 2021 was the fourth edition of The Industrial Hygiene Reference and Study Guide.
“We congratulate the editors on their outstanding achievement and are proud to have The Noise Manual among AIHA’s resources for professionals,” said Geraci.
