Course Outcomes:
Upon completion, students will have a basic understanding of:
- What a DRI is and where it is used
- How different types of DRIs function including Colorimetric (Detector) Tubes, Electrochemical Sensors, Oxygen Sensors, Combustible Gas Sensors, Photoionization Detectors (PIDs), and other specialized detectors
- What a hazard evaluation is and why it is important to complete one before using a DRI
- Chemical properties of gases and vapors and how that affects DRI measurements
- How to identify the functions and limitations of your DRI, including cross-sensitivities
- Calibration and functional tests
- How to troubleshoot unusual readings
- How to maintain a DRI
- How to keep appropriate records of your DRI including data logs
