Recorded in October 2020, this Summit presented by the Women in IH Committee focuses on managing change in the context of leadership, the IH field, and from the perspective of women. Topics address change issues such as a) transitioning from a technical practitioner into a management role, b) surviving organizational change, and c) finding your place after an employment change.

Course outcomes
Upon completion, students will be able to:

Who will benefit
The Women in IH Committee's mission statement is to "provide a platform for professional women to support career development, promote leadership skills, and share information relevant to women working in industrial hygiene." While this course is sponsored by the Women in IH Committee and is geared toward the committee's mission, the content is applicable for all OEHS professionals.

Crystal Brown, CIH, CSP, U.S. Air Force, Wichita, KS
Crystal Brown is Certified Industrial Hygienist and Certified Safety Professional with 13 years experience managing a team of technicians and subject matter experts. Her areas of expertise are broad, spanning across Occupational, Environmental and Radiological Health programs. In addition, she has certifications and experience in Federal Emergency Management and HAZMAT response operations.
Chrisy Walsh, MS, CIH, Colden Corporation, Blue Bell, PA
As a Project Manager at Colden, Chrisy Walsh specializes in litigation support, health and safety auditing, emergency planning, ergonomic evaluation, and safety program development. She is well versed in occupational hazards and associated controls within numerous industries, including maritime, law enforcement, aviation, manufacturing, and housing environments. Chrisy served as a military officer in the United States Coast Guard for over ten years. She developed emergency plans and supervised response actions during the 2011 Mississippi River Flooding, 2012 Hurricane Isaac, and 2013 Super Bowl XLVII events. During her role as the Pollution Response Assistant Division Chief, she oversaw approximately 1,800 pollution cases annually, supervised oil spill investigations, and enforced federal and state environmental protection regulations. As a Regional Safety and Environmental Health Director, she provided environmental health, safety, emergency response, and industrial hygiene support to 138 Coast Guard facilities and 7,500+ employees across eight states. She also served as the supervising Safety Officer during the 2016 Hurricane Matthew, 2017 Sail Boston Maritime Celebration, 2017 Hurricane Harvey, and 2017 Hurricane Maria incidents. Chrisy holds a Master of Science in environmental health from Harvard University with a concentration in occupational hygiene. Her thesis focused on evaluating and characterizing 3-D printer emissions in the workplace. She earned a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from the United States Coast Guard Academy, graduating with honors. Ms. Walsh is a Certified Industrial Hygienist and an active member of the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA). Before relocating to the Greater Philadelphia area, she served as the President and Executive Committee Adviser of the New England Section of AIHA.
Joy Erdman, MS, CIH, CSP, Joy Solutions, LLC, Falls Church, VA
Ms. Erdman is a private consultant in occupational safety and health, based in Falls Church, Virginia. Her most recent position was the senior civilian CIH & CSP working in the Pentagon in support of the U.S. Navy's occupational safety & health program. She previously worked for the Navy in London, United Kingdom, and Port Hueneme, California. Ms. Erdman served on a variety of DoD and Federal Interagency committees. She completed the Harvard Kennedy School of Government Program for Senior Executive Fellows. In 2012, she was selected by the American Society of Safety Engineers as one of 100 women who have made a positive difference in safety over the past 100 years.
Celia Booth, CIH, CSP, Booth-McCaffery LLC, Ponte Vedra, FL
Ms. Booth is a principal consultant with Booth McCaffery LLC. Most recently, she was the Vice President of McCaffery & Associates, Inc., a historical document consulting firm specializing in research to support toxic tort litigation. Booth was the lead researcher for the firm's occupational health and safety practice, along with directing the risk management program for the company. Previously, she served as the Director of Risk Management for Gannett Co., Inc., where she was responsible for the design and implementation of the global risk management program as well as the development of corporate safety policies and procedures, management of vendor services in risk management for 51,500 employees throughout the United States and overseas. She has also served as a consultant specializing in industrial hygiene and safety organizational development for Travelers Property & Casualty Company. Her general industry experience ranges from heavy metal fabrication, electronics assembly, and construction to apparel manufacturing and health care operations. Her work in safety organizational development helped several clients reduce workers' compensation costs from 50-80% within the first year of project solutions implementation. Her military service encompasses twenty-five years of duty as an Unrestricted Line Officer. She has commanded three Naval Reserve Units in three states. A Captain, Booth has provided safety management reviews in afloat (destroyer tender) and shore (SIMA, Naval Station, and Telecommunications) commands. She most recently served as the Executive Officer for the reserve augment unit at the Navy Operations Center in the Pentagon, Arlington, VA, until her retirement in October 2005. During her 39-year career, Booth's contributions to the field of occupational safety and health include numerous articles on safety management and ergonomics for trade publications; papers on total quality management and risk communication; and professional development courses on leadership and ethics at numerous regional, national, and international conferences, including AIHce, over the past 20 years.
Jason Kunz, MS, CIH, CSP, 3M, Minneapolis, MN
Jason Kunz grew up on the frigid shores of Lake Superior in Northern MN. Thus, he believes there is no such thing as inclement weather, just inappropriate clothing. He's been blessed with average ability but an obsessive drive & work ethic. Jason is currently the Co-Founder and President of one of the fastest-growing charities in the Midwest, Best Christmas Ever (BCE), and a Cultural Excellence Evangelist at 3M. He is an avid cyclist, outdoor and ice bath enthusiast, and speaker. He currently resides in Minneapolis with the most amazing woman in the world, his wife, Malia. When he grows up, he aspires to be a semi-professional stay at home father.
Perry Logan, Ph.D., CIH, 3M, St. Paul, MN
Perry is currently Director, Safety & Health at 3M. His previous experience includes industrial hygiene at complex chemical facilities, EHS consulting, hazardous waste management/operations, and emergency response. He helped integrate industrial hygiene into safety, environmental, business systems, and programs by implementing 3M's comprehensive exposure assessment and management program (Control Banding). Perry has made numerous technical presentations on comprehensive exposure assessment, mathematical exposure models, surface and air sampling system technologies, and FTIR for industrial hygiene. He is a past instructor for many professional development courses. Perry is a past chair of the AIHA® Exposure Assessment Strategies Committee and the Gas and Vapor Detection Systems Committee. He earned a BS in chemical engineering, an MS in industrial hygiene, and a PhD in environmental and occupational health from the University of Minnesota.
Aileen Yankowski, MPH, CIH, SMS Solutions/The Brand of U, Long Beach, CA
Aileen Yankowski - MPH, CIH is the owner of two consulting firms – Safety Management Systems (SMS) Solutions and The Brand of U. SMS Solutions provides technical consulting services to global aerospace companies, law enforcement, and the military to engage and change their cultures around safety management ownership and aircraft accident investigations. In her other company – The Brand of U, where she assists people with mapping out their personal/ professional brand and providing career and life coaching services. She is an active member of the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA), where she is a founding member and immediate past Chair of the Women in IH (WIH) Committee to support women during their leadership journeys. She was also the Chair for the Career & Employment Services committee and a liaison to the Mentoring Committee. She is a member of ASSP and a member of the newly established Long Beach CA chapter of Women in Safety Excellence (WISE). Aileen is also a guest speaker on various leadership and technical topics to universities, California Highway Patrol, US Coast Guard, US Navy, Nigerian airport authority, Royal Canadian Air Force, Norwegian Air Force, Air Canada, Gulfstream Aerospace, ASSP, and AIHA. She has more than 20 years in the aerospace industry working for major corporations in EHS/SMS management, holding executive management positions (Gulfstream Aerospace and The Boeing Company). Before that, she worked in government (OSHA and State Consultation), private industry, and environmental consulting. Aileen has a Bachelor's degree in environmental and public health from the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire, a Master's in public health with an emphasis in environmental and occupational health from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She is a Certified Industrial Hygienist.
